UPDATE - July 21, 2008 - From Beck Group

As most of you know, the base building (above grade) will be completed by this evening late or first thing tomorrow morning. The remainder of the week will have us completing haul off of material and starting layout.
This week in to next week we are anticipating limited vibration. The week of 8/4/08 will start the next round of drilling, etc...which will create significant vibration.

UPDATE - June 30, 2008 - From Beck Group

Hope everyone is doing well. This week is much of the same as the last two weeks. We are continuing our progress from the East to West with demo of the structure and are still scheduled to have the building down the week of July 21. We are now along side NST and will continue demo this week in that area. We anticipate vibration, but are hoping that the material falling will land on the rubble pile limiting the amount of vibration transferred to NST.

MBB should be in the clear for a while until the end of July when we start clearing out the basement material below grade.

UPDATE - June 16, 2008 - From Beck Group

As all of you have seen we are now heavy into the demo of the building. As we work East to West, vibration will be worse for MBB this week and next week and then become more evident for NST. We are hoping
to have the East portion of the building down by end of next week, and concentrating on the central and West portion 6.30.08-7.22.08. We are trying to minimize the vibration with the long arm crusher, but still find at
times that large pieces of debris are falling causing the vibration.

Looking ahead, we will start pier drilling for the retention system at the end of July. We will work West to East with this process.

UPDATE - MAY 27, 2008 - From Beck Group

We can start off with good news this morning that the structure of the sky bridge is down. This was causing tremendous vibration to MBB. Our next step will be to remove the sidewalks and steps at NST an start the exterior demo from NST to Speedway. So in short, we will still experience the vibration at MBB with this scope of work. The hand demo continues between ESB and NST this week. Our goal is still set to have the work between ESB an MBB complete by 6/8/08. This will allow us to open the access drive to NST and MBB loading dock on Monday morning, 6/9/08. This will be open for deliveries and campus maintenance only until the completion of the project.

The trash pickup for MBB, NST, and PHR can resume as normal starting 6/9/08. We will remove the temporary enclosures for trash pickup that day.

UPDATE - MAY 27, 2008 - From Beck Group

VIBRATION - Hand demo will continue this week between ESB and NST. As Mike has been aware of, this has been causing some significant vibration at times. We feel this could be lessened a little since the majority of the limestone (very heavy) is removed at this point and we are left with clay brick.
This work will continue at this area until 6/16/08, at the latest. Possibly complete by 6/9/08.
The sky bridge will start heavy demo this week and will be completed by 6/3/08. There will be some hand demo, saw cutting, and then the structure will be removed by mechanical means. We are predicting that the most severe vibration will take place the later part of this week into Tuesday of next week.
The exterior skin on ESB, between NST and MBB, will be removed on 6/3/08 and will be completed 6/8/08. Much like the removal directly between ESB and NST, material will be free falling which will create vibration.
Hopefully due to the location, NST and MBB will be mildly affected.

If we have a gap in vibration for NST and MBB, it could be the week of 6/9/08. The exterior skin will be getting removed on the South side of ESB, and we hope the hand demo is finished at this point directly between NST and MBB. The gap would be short lived and only be 3-4 days max.

Next Monday, 6/2/08, I will issue not only the weekly update, but also a formal monthly report.

UPDATE- MAY 15, 2008 - From Ann Harasimowitz

On May 19th, expect to see a dramatic increase in the activity at the ESB construction site. Exterior demolition activities will start in earnest on this date. One of the first changes will be the closing off and fencing in of the entrance to the parking lot / loading docks of MBB and NST. This will remain closed off, with restricted access to service and delivery vehicles only, throughout the duration of the ESB project. For people using NST facilities, access to the building from Speedway will be through the MBB breezeway. A map of the ESB construction site showing location of fencing and pedestrian access / walkways can be found at
http://www.utexas.edu/ecs/construction/maps/northwest.html

The demolition schedule is as follows:

May 19 - June 1: Demolition of the sky bridge connecting ESB and MBB (During this period there will be no access to MBB or NST loading docks)

June 1 - 16: Demolition and removal of exterior stairs and ramp shared by NST and ESB. Construction of new entrance stairs to serve the east entrance of NST.

Heavy demolition of ESB proper will begin on June 16th. Work will start on the east end and move west.

By June 28th, contractors expect to be almost even with the east end of NST.

By July 12, the center section of ESB will be down (about even with the current walkway between NST and Pharmacy). By July 26th, contractors should have reached the west end of the building.

Trucks removing demolition debris and materials will exit site and head north on Speedway to Dean Keeton.

The intent is to get demolition done quickly during summer months while campus is not quite so crowded.
